Lydia Foster (née Hanson) is a character on Grace and Frankie, portrayed by Christine Lahti.
Biography[]
Lydia was born several years after her brother Robert Hanson. They both have a difficult relationship with their mother, Barbara Hanson.
Both Robert and Lydia felt pressured to study law and achieve. Robert became a lawyer and Lydia became a judge. She married a Mr Foster at some point in her life and had two children with him: Randolph "Randy" and Constance "Connie" Foster.
Lydia befriended her sister-in-law, Grace Purcelle when she married her brother Robert. The two often shopped together and were in the same clubs. Robert divorced Grace in his seventies and came out as gay. Lydia ceased being friends with Grace after this.
Several years later, Lydia was the one to find her mother who had suddenly died. She called her brother to tell him. Both were very stoic about the death.
Character[]
Lydia is a superficial woman who works as a judge, which is fitting as she likes to judge people. She is not very loyal, as she used to be her sister-in-law, Grace Hanson's best friend until she divorced Robert, Lydia's brother. This hurt Grace.
