Reginald "Reggie" Teinert (1945-2020) was an old friend of Robert Hanson during their time in the Navy together. He died in 2020, and was survived by his widow, Dorothy Teinert, their four children and twelve grandchildren.
Biography[]
During basic training in San Diego in 1963, Reggie struggled. One day, when he already had two strikes against him Reggie forgot to polish his shoes. And when the commander came in to inspect them, they had been polished. Someone had shined them for Reggie. If Reggie had failed that inspection, they would have revoked his liberty. That weekend was the weekend he met Dorothy.
Reggie was then sent to Vietnam, where he was saved by Mr. Henson after the Vietcong shot and bombed his ship in the port of Saigon. Mr Henson would lord this over Reggie his entire life, and even used this to convince Reggie and his wife to financially support his son's film, which turned out to be pretty offensive.
He married Dorothy in 1970, who "loved him from the moment [she] met him". They had four children together, including a son named Reginald "Junior", and twelve grandchildren, before he passed away in 2020. He often told his children about how Robert had saved him and his marriage because of polishing his shoes, teaching his children how far a little kindness could go.
